There is no better time than fall to visit Glacier National Park with warm days, crisp cool nights and gorgeous autumn colors. While all this beauty surrounds you, become an accomplished fly fisherperson. This school provides you some of the best education and guidance Northwest Montana has to offer. Our professional guides are all licensed with the state of Montana and have fished these waters for many years. Stay in our cabins, use our trout pond and spend time on the Middle and North Forks of the Flathead River . Autumn is the ideal time of the year to avoid the crowds, have crystal clear waters and great fishing.

We base this school out of our cabins in West Glacier where we have access to our trout pond and a multitude of river sections. The school includes great fishing and instruction, nightly lodging in our spacious cabins, and daily lunches. This school focuses on the history of fly fishing, types of equipment, casting techniques, fly identification, knots, presentation, hatches, reading water and fish identification. This school is geared to getting you to a level where you feel confident to fly fish on your own.

We can customize our fishing school to fit your schedule. There is a two-person minimum to begin the school. If you just want to touch up on your fly-fishing skills you might opt for two days, but if you are a beginning fly fisherperson you might opt to stay up to five days. We begin at 8:30 am to plan the day's strategy followed by a full day of instruction, lunch and fishing.

Equipment is provided, but if you have your own, bring it. You will want a five weight/9 foot/4 piece rod or smaller with a weight forward floating line, several leaders (4x or 5x leaders work well), and a good variety of western trout patterns including the Sofa Pillow stone, red and yellow Humpies, Royal Wulff, caddis patterns (especially the Elk Hair), Parachute Adams and Stimulators. Although a good portion of the fishing is from a boat, you may want to throw in your waders. If you have questions on what to bring or if you would rather wait to pick up your equipment until you arrive in Montana, we have a full service fly shop to assist you. A Montana fishing license must be purchased prior to the start of the fly fishing school and can be purchased at Glacier Outdoor Center.

If you have time after the school, you may want to go on one of our 2-7 day fly fishing expeditions. If you do not have time this year, there may be time in the future – these trips are custom designed to fit your needs and time constraints.
